School Programs

The Lowndes County Historical Museum has a lot to offer for local school, day care, and youth
groups. Children’s groups can visit the museum throughout the year and are given presentations
guided by museum staff. These groups can be shown a special PowerPoint presentation that is
specifically written for children. The presentation consists mainly of historic Valdosta images, and a
staff member will speak about each slide in the presentation, and engage visitors to participate.
The presentation is geared toward 7-10 year old children, but is adaptable for younger and older
groups. Youngsters can participate in scavenger hunts to find items in our displays and learn
about different aspects of local history.

Children can also visit our backyard were they can explore our historic railroad caboose, ring the
old Valdosta Institute school bell, learn about Gypsy the elephant, visit a replica pioneer home, and
learn about historic local agriculture.

Those interested in taking a group to the museum should call or email days in advance to
set up a time. Feel free to contact the museum if you have further questions about what the
museum has to offer for young visitors.

There is no admission cost for groups.
